What if O. Henry had spun out any of his witty short stories in longer form? Young Romance is an answer created by William deMille (Cecil B. DeMille’s older, smarter, less captalized brother) first as a stage play and then as the screenplay for a truly delightful romance. Based on O. Henry’s Transients in Arcadia, Young Romance adds interesting plot twists, more scenes of wry humor, and heightened drama. But it does something more; it also brings out and examines a little more leisurely the poignant emotional twist of the original story, in which two like souls find one another, against all odds.
